Club Campestre - Medellin, Colombia

One Medellin's oldest and most prestigious private golf and tennis clubs is located in Poblado. When the international woman's tennis FedCup (www.fedcup.com) was held at the club in April, 06. I thought it would be a good opportunity to also check out the club's facilities. Conclusion-very nice!

I wandered over the grounds, including the club house, taking lots of photos. Not once was I challenged, though I'm sure security was aware of my presence. Overall, my visit to the Club was a low key, comfortable and interesting experience.

I don't know if the Club welcomes non member visitors and their families on a per Diem business, nor do I know if they are receptive to receiving applications from foreigners. If interested, give the Club a call! I Googled them, but could not find a Home Page.

I'm sure members are aware, that the Club could be a very positive force in opening the doors to Medellin, attracting international investors, AND improve the Medellin economy. But, if they wish to remain "as is", that is their choice, for it is a private club!

Back to the tennis matches. I lived in and out of Cuba, over a 5 year period, and the past six years I've lived and worked in Colombia. As a result, I found myself cheering equally, for BOTH Cuba and Colombia-a first time experience!

Four clay courts were used for FedCup match play, leaving many more for FedCup practice, Club members, their kids and local tournaments. All courts are well maintained and lighted for nighttime play.

Overlooking the courts is a new apartment complex. Want to buy at "under construction prices"?

I thought this was an exclusive club? Well, if they let me in, I'm sure this female plumber had no trouble!

Every Hispanic country club must have a Football field. The Club's Soccer facility is in first class condition.

A high percentage of members live in Poblado. When the Club was formed, the skyline was free of apartments that now surround the Club grounds. I would not be surprised if many of these apartment buildings are oriented toward the Club, instead of normal positioning, which is overlooking the city? The Club's rolling grounds are beautiful, and must be worth a small fortune!
